It appears that Amazon is intent on coming down heavy on any sellers using fake or incorrect UPC codes. Amazon&#8217;s aim is to have a clean product database with all items listed just once. It appears this will only affect Amazon.com for the time being with no announcement yet about Amazon UK or EU sites.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the announcement which can also be viewed on <a href=\"https:\/\/sellercentral.amazon.com\/gp\/help\/help.html\/?itemID=200317470&amp;ref_=ag_200317470_a_r0_cont_sgsearch\">Amazon Seller Central<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Product selection and buyer satisfaction are instrumental to Amazon&#8217;s success. By providing industry-standard product identifiers for their listings, sellers improve the quality of the Amazon.com catalogue as a whole. Promoting confidence in the range of products depicted in the Amazon.com catalogue \u2013 from Books to Jewellery to Tools \u2013 helps to ensure a high-quality experience for customers.<\/p>\n<p>Most categories require sellers to use a <a href=\"https:\/\/sellercentral.amazon.com\/gp\/help\/200211450\/ref=id_200211450_cont_200317470\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">product identifier<\/a> to create new product pages and listings. The specific <a href=\"https:\/\/sellercentral.amazon.com\/gp\/help\/200211450\/ref=id_200211450_cont_200317470#gtins\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GTIN<\/a> (Global Trade Item Number) required for product page creation and matching varies by category, although UPCs are most commonly used. For instance:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"a-vertical\">\n<li><span class=\"a-list-item\">Many categories have specific UPC and GTIN Guidelines that sellers are required to follow when creating product pages. These include requirements for products sold as <a href=\"https:\/\/sellercentral.amazon.com\/gp\/help\/200442350\/ref=id_200442350_cont_200317470\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bundles<\/a> and requirements for products sold as packs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"a-list-item\">UPC requirements may vary across categories or for different types of products in the same category.
