If you\u2019re a little lost right now, let\u2019s break things down a bit. Amazon\u2019s sort of like Walmart in that you can find pretty much anything there. But the opposite of that is they\u2019re not a niche boutique that specialises in anything, and that\u2019s where you come in.<\/p>\n<p>Narrow down your product inventory to just a few selection items and <em>own<\/em> that sh-, er, shop. And by owning it, we mean adding on the special touches that Amazon neglects, like email marketing campaigns and content marketing.<\/p>\n<h3>2. Offer Ace Customer Service<\/h3>\n<p>We\u2019ll give credit where credit\u2019s due \u2014 Amazon has a pretty good customer support system in place. But it\u2019s not exactly personalised or custom-made, and that\u2019s how you can compete with them. Do things like answer the phone yourself and greet shoppers, take extra little steps that aren\u2019t normally part of your business plan, and even consider being like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.snopes.com\/2016\/01\/13\/zulily-rejects-winter-coat\/\">this store<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>3. Brand Your Own Style of Shipping<\/h3>\n<p>Again, we have to give props to Amazon for having really <a href=\"http:\/\/www.repricerexpress.com\/should-you-offer-free-shipping-and-returns\/\">amazing shipping options<\/a>. You can get things as soon as the end of the day, if you\u2019re willing to pay for it. There\u2019s probably no way you can go head-to-head with it, but you <em>can<\/em> create your own style of shipping that\u2019s uniquely yours.<\/p>\n<p>And what about if Amazon catches on to what you\u2019re doing and tries to oust you? Well, here are some things to try out.<\/p>\n<h2>Fighting Back Against Amazon<\/h2>\n<p>Try out these approaches if Amazon puts on the pressure in trying to make you back down.<\/p>\n<h3>Get Exclusive with Suppliers<\/h3>\n<p>If you can create an ironclad agreement with one or more suppliers where they\u2019ll sell to you under the proviso they won\u2019t also sell to Amazon, you\u2019re hedging your bets that you can\u2019t be taken over. On a really big scale, this is an example of a trust where big companies team up to block out the little guys; you\u2019re doing it on a smaller scale to block out Amazon from your radar.<\/p>\n<h3>Work Out Special Terms with Your Suppliers<\/h3>\n<p>Closely tied to the above point, try and work out a contract with your suppliers where there\u2019s some flexibility.
