Amazon said to be weighing up Toys R Us store buys:<\/strong> Hannah Boland at The Telegraph<\/a> reports that Amazon is weighing up whether to buy sites from Toys R Us, just days after the toy retailer announced plans to wind up its US business. According to Bloomberg, Amazon would not keep the Toys R Us branding if it did buy the locations, but instead would be looking to turn those sites into its own facilities. Amazon is shutting down Vendor Express, a shortcut for wholesalers to sell inventory:<\/strong> Eugene Kim at CNBC<\/a> reports that Amazon has announced that it will be closing Vendor Express. The company told sellers in an email that it will stop taking orders as of May 21, and that the program will become “permanently unavailable” starting 2019. “We’re constantly looking for ways to improve the selling experience on Amazon,” the email said. “After careful evaluation, we’ve decided to retire Vendor Express and refocus the business on other selling programs.” Amazon said the program’s vendors will be “transitioned to alternative ways to sell on Amazon.” Continue reading…<\/a><\/p>\n

Amazon\u2019s latest patent is a delivery drone that understands when you shout at it:<\/strong> Thuy Ong at The Verge<\/a> reports that Amazon has filed a patent for a delivery drone that responds when you call or wave at it. The patent was spotted by GeekWire and the concept drone is designed to recognise human gestures, and then respond accordingly. Gestures the drone would recognise include, for example, waving arms, pointing, the flashing of lights, and speech. A quarter of Amazon merchants’ sales are cross-border:<\/strong> Jeffrey Dastin at Reuters<\/a> reports that more than a quarter of all revenue for sellers on Amazon globally was from cross-border transactions in 2017, up more than 50% from 2016\/ Amazon Vice President Eric Broussard said in an interview, that amounts to between $50 billion and $75 billion for merchants selling to customers in another country, based on analysts\u2019 estimates for Amazon\u2019s total gross merchandise sales. Amazon grows to ten thousand sellers in Australia:<\/strong> Joe at Marketplace Pulse<\/a> reports that after launching in Australia in December last year, Amazon has now reached 10,000 sellers on the marketplace. In two months the marketplace has doubled in size from 5,000 sellers in January. While initially requiring approval to sell on the marketplace, Amazon has recently made the process as simple as it is in other countries, and thus the marketplace growth accelerated considerably.
